How to Make Matcha Tea
So you want to make matcha green tea but aren't sure how to make the healthiest drink on the planet? That’s no problem because we at Tenzo are matcha tea masters, and we’ve got your back. These are the keys to your favorite drink.
Why You Should Make Matcha Tea
Matcha tea is different from green tea because matcha is meant to be blended into your drink. When the powder is mixed in, matcha tea is a much healthier beverage than green tea from a bag.
How to Make Matcha Green Tea
First, you want to start with 2 oz of hot, but not boiling water. You don’t want to use boiling water because that can make the tea bitter, as the harsh temperature will burn the leaves. Next, take one level teaspoon of matcha powder and add that to your bowl of hot water.
Use Tenzo’s bamboo whisk to whisk together the matcha powder and hot water. Make sure to whisk in an M/W motion, instead of circles. Whisk until there are no more lumps and the mixture is nice and frothy. You should be able to see bubbles covering the entire top.
This is a green tea shot, the base for all matcha beverages. You can drink the shot straight (we do at Tenzo HQ). A green tea shot can be very strong, so we recommend starting with a full cup of tea or a latte as your first experience with matcha.

Is Milk Good For You?
Studies have shown that the dairy and lactose in milk can prevent your body from being able to absorb antioxidants and other beneficial nutrients found in green tea. We were devastated when we heard this, too. Luckily, there’s a way to get around this without forfeiting your favorite drink. Want all the benefits of matcha powder in the form of a delicious morning latte? Try using a non-dairy milk in your morning latte. We promise the difference in taste is minimal, and you’ll feel great throughout the day!
