Matcha Lamb's Wool and Fresh Spiced Cranberry Punch

Make some Matcha Memories this Thanksgiving

As fall gives way to winter, it introduces us to a time for good food, gathering together, and giving thanks.

Every family celebrates Thanksgiving differently, but the one constant at every celebration is tradition. Unlike other holidays that are bound in ancient, unchanging religious ceremony, the events at Thanksgiving largely depend on what happened the year before, and the year before that, and the year before that… and on and on.

That’s the really incredible part of Thanksgiving dinner. No two are the same, and each year we form and reform our family traditions, defining those that are important to us, and creating new ones based on our ever changing selves and world.

For us at Tenzo Tea, all of you in our lovely Communitea are part of our family and we could not be more thankful for all that you have helped us achieve in this past year.  Both of the recipes in this post are Tenzo Tea's modern take on traditional fall flavors. We've shared these recipes with you because we hope, above all, that matcha can be part of your family tradition this year.

Matcha Lamb’s Wool

This is a traditional apple cider based punch, with a modern twist. The name comes from the apple pulp that floats on the surface of the punch bowl or cup. Tenzo's Matcha Green Tea Powder provides the modern twist, balancing the buttery sweetness of the apples with a fresh earthiness. Spiced with ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg it will give you all kinds of cozy fall feelings (especially since it's alcoholic) and is best served hot, in a shiny mug, next to a crackling fire.

Ingredients

(12 servings)
  • 4-6 apples

  • 2 quarts (alcoholic) apple cider or ale or a mixture

  • ¼ cup light brown sugar

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg

  • ¼ teaspoon ginger

  •  1 teaspoon Tenzo Premium Matcha Green Tea Powder

Instructions

  1. Bake apples in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit until they are very soft.

  2. Cool, peel, and mash apples.

  3. Combine apple pulp with cider, brown sugar, and spices and heat thoroughly on the stove.

  4. Strain.

  5. Whisk in Tenzo Matcha Powder.

  6. Serve hot and enjoy!

Instructions

  1. Combine fresh cranberries, water, and spices in a large pot.

  2. Simmer about fifteen minutes. You should hear the cranberries popping as they burst in the hot water.

  3. Strain cranberry water into a large punch bowl.

  4. Sift Tenzo Matcha Powder into a bowl, add 1/2 cup of lemon juice and use a bamboo whisk to whisk the mixture together until there no more lumps and the matcha powder dissolves completely. Add to the cranberry water.

  5. Add orange juice and sugar and stir until sugar dissolves.

We hope all of you in our Communitea have an incredible Thanksgiving. We'd love to hear about your family traditions, and how you shared Tenzo Tea with the ones you love in the comments below.
