Magical Matcha Dipped Pretzel Witch Fingers

Matcha Dipped Pretzel Witch Fingers

This recipe is a Halloween classic and has multiple versions circulating online. Most of them call for the use of green candy melts and artificial food coloring (boo!). We made this recipe a bit more grown up by using high quality white chocolate, adding matcha green tea powder for green color and gourmet flavor, and using rich dark chocolate to paint the nails instead of food coloring. Voilà, fun festive recipe that kids will marvel at and adults will actually want to eat. Plus, this recipe is completely free of artificial colors and flavors so you can feel good about serving it to your loved ones.

Be warned, these magic matcha dipped pretzel witch fingers are addicting. White chocolate and matcha pair wonderfully, yielding a delicate earthy sweetness. The pretzels give you all kinds of salty savory goodness, and the dark chocolate coated almonds top it off with one last layer of pure decadence. Seriously, these may look like Halloween treats, but their taste is something you’ll be craving year round. So pull out your broomstick and fire up the cauldron, its time to make a little matcha magic.

Ingredients

  • Pretzel Rods

Directions

  1. Use a small paring knife to slice 10-20 almonds in half lengthwise to form nails. (You can also buy pre-sliced almonds and skip this step).

  2. Place white chocolate into a microwave safe, tall, ceramic mug. Microwave for 15-second intervals, stirring between each interval until the white chocolate is completely melted.

  3. Mix in 1 tsp of matcha powder.  Feel free to add more matcha until you get the green color that you want.

  4. Dip pretzel rods one at a time into the white chocolate and matcha mixture. Shake off any excess into the mug before placing each pretzel on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.

  5. After about 1 minute, move the dipped pretzels to a different baking sheet lined with wax paper (this will keep the dipped pretzels from drying in a puddle of white chocolate).

  6. Before the white chocolate has completely dried, place one almond half on the end of each pretzel rod to create nails. Make sure to push them in a bit to give the appearance of a cuticle.

  7. Melt dark chocolate in the microwave for 15-second intervals, stirring between each interval until the chocolate is completely melted

  8. Dip a small paintbrush into the melted dark chocolate and use it to paint the almond “nail” of each dipped pretzel.

  9. Allow the dipped pretzels to dry completely before serving.

  10. Enjoy!

Have Some Wicked Witchy Fun

This is a great recipe to make with kids as there is no flame or baking required. Just be sure to have an adult slice the almonds as that can get a bit tricky. Little ones will love dipping the pretzels and decorate the fingernails. They will also love pretending that these are their own fingers (I know I did).

Also feel free to get creative with these fingers. You can draw knuckles with a toothpick for a more realistic look. Add a few sprinkles to look like warts. If you are a manicure whiz, add some custom nail art!

Most importantly, have fun! This recipe is all about playful Halloween hi-jinks.

I'm not saying that I ran around the office poking people with my magical matcha dipped pretzel witch fingers, but I'm also not saying that I didn't do that (because I did). Happy Halloween!

Cheers,
